This past weekend was Memorial Day Weekend! It is usually lots of fun as Brian has an extra day off from work and we always go somewhere to get out of the house and get away. This year turned out to be a little bit disappointing but hey, that's life.
Plan A. Mexico!! My friend Annie got married in Mexico over the weekend. We were originally slated to go spend some time in the sun and sand and attend her wedding. Despite the swine flu scare we were determined to be there. I was really looking forward to a weekend in Mexico; spending time at the pool, drinking margaritas and attending a beautiful wedding. However, United had different plans for us, and canceled our flight two weeks ago. United suspended all direct service from Denver to all Mexico destinations through June 15th. What? We sadly canceled our reservations and informed the bride-to-be we could not make the trip.
Plan B. Mountains!! One of the great things about Colorado is that a little getaway is right outside your back door and about an hour drive away. Brian and I decided to cancel Roxy's kennel reservation and take her to the mountains for a little hiking and relaxing in the cool weather of the mountains. Fast forward to Saturday morning when we woke up to a huge (and smelly) mess in Roxy's room, the mud room. Poor little puppy has some serious scoots. Sorry, I know its gross. We fed her some cooked white rice and water and tried to see how she made it through the day - we could always go to the mountains for the second half of the weekend. Nope. Two hours at the vet and $300 later, the poops prevail. We canceled our trip to the mountains.
Plan C. Stay Home - Golf and Gardening!! It will still be fun, right?! This story is already getting old. It literally started raining on Saturday early afternoon and only stopped for what seemed like about 30 minutes every four or five hours until this morning. I'm over it. We got a little spot of clearing on Monday afternoon where we did about an two hours of gardening but no golf. Sad. And that, my friends, is our Memorial Day Weekend in a nutshell.
There is a silver lining to this rainy cloud; I got to spend the whole weekend with my wonderful husband. Just the two of us (and a sick puppy)! We tried a new restaurant, Beatrice & Woodsley, which was delicious. For those of you in Denver, you should try it. Funny name and an odd location (Broadway & Ellsworth) but very good and a great atmosphere. We also went to sushi one night at Sushi Den, on of our favs, which was yummy. We had two great "date" nights and I think I would trade that for a fabulous weekend in Mexico anytime.....well, maybe anytime!
